In the near future, a tech company launches a neural
implant called "Ember"
, which allows users to
simulate the emotional state of being "in love" —
including infatuation, longing, trust, and emotional
euphoria. It is marketed toward people with difficulty
forming romantic connections (e.g., aromantic
individuals, trauma survivors, or people with
intimacy disorders). The experience can be toggled
on/off, and optionally linked to specific people or
avatars, but the emotion is artificially generated.
